Seeking Teaching Artist – Journalism

August 21, 2023 By

About Us:

Sundog Theatre is seeking a lead teaching artist who specializes in Journalism to teach Staten Island 4th/5th grade students writing and reporting techniques. This is a program Sundog Theatre has been successfully delivering for over 10 years. Students learn about fundamentals of the journalistic writing process.  This is an after-school program providing guidance on how to research article ideas, ensure information accuracy, and how to perform interviews.  As the lead teaching artist, the Journalism teaching artist will collaborate with two other teaching artists–who specialize in photography and illustration–and student participants.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Guide student writers with article ideas and how to structure/write a story.
Keep current list of articles being written and share with other two teaching artists.
Read completed articles, refer edits back to writers for corrections, and return edited articles for review.
Keep files on writers with their completed articles.

Collaborate with the other two teaching artists to keep student participants on task.

Rate: $50+/hour – depending on experience.

Qualified applicants should submit the following to jobs (at) SundogTheatre.org:

  • Teaching artist resume
  • Artist resume
  • References of your work as a teaching artist from supervisors, principals, teachers
  • Samples of teaching work, if possible
