Musical Theatre Kids Acting Classes – SHREK The Musical

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical, based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

Once upon a time, in a faraway swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

Students learn:

…focus, imagination, creation, and theatre games, while rehearsing for a final performance. A fun way to work with other young people! Students have the opportunity to develop theatre and public presentation skills as they rehearse for a production where they can make friends and work as a team.

This class is for ages 9-17.

Melissa Tierney (Instructor)

Melissa Tierney has over 20 years of experience in educational theatre with numerous credits as actor, director, and teacher for many organizations including Sundog, Msgr. Farrell High, St. Sylvester School, PS 41, PS 38, and SeaView Playwrights. Ms. Tierney has a BA in Theatre, a BS in Elementary Education, and also graduated from the Staten Island Teaching Artist Institute.

MEDICAL AUTHORIZATION In the event of an injury to the above minor during the above-described activities, I give my permission to Sundog Theatre or to the employees, representatives or agents of Sundog Theatre to arrange for all necessary medical treatment for which I shall be financially responsible. This temporary authority will begin on the first day of class and will remain in effect until terminated in writing by the undersigned or when the above-described activities are completed. Sundog Theatre shall have the following powers: a. The power to seek appropriate medical treatment or attention on behalf of my child as may be required by the circumstances, including without limitation, that of a licensed medical physician and/or a hospital; and b. The power to authorize medical treatment or medical procedures in an emergency situation. INDEMNIFICATION I agree to indemnify and defend Sundog Theatre and Msgr Farrell High School against all claims, causes of action, damages, judgments, costs or expenses, including attorney fees and other litigation costs, which may in any way arise from my or my family's use of or presence upon the facilities of Sundog Theatre and Msgr Farrell High School. PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEO I give my permission for my child to be photographed or videotaped by Sundog for archival and publicity purposes.
