The Good Doctor by Neil Simon, based on the short stories of Anton Chekhov
June 19 – 21 and June 26 – 28
The old-world storytelling of renowned Russian playwright Anton Chekhov interpreted through the lens of Neil Simon’s wit presents the modern and appealing The Good Doctor, a series of vignettes woven together through a central storyteller. At times funny, heartwarming, and heartbreaking, these stories present universal moments at the core of what makes us human.
There will be a stipend of $500 provided to actors.
Director: Meredith Sladek
Seeking a diverse ensemble cast of 6-12 performers to portray 26 characters who are a mix of ages 20s – 60s. We encourage actors of all ethnicities, body types, and abilities to audition. All roles are open. Some actors will be double cast.
For the vignette “Too Late for Happiness”:
We will intentionally cast performers who can portray a man and woman 60s – 70s. TLFH is envisioned as a full cast musical number, but only the Man and Woman characters sing. Auditioners for those two roles should be proficient singers and comfortable with or without accompaniment. Those actors will be asked to sing 16-32 bars, a capella or to an instrumental track on your phone, from a piece that best shows off your ability.
For the vignette “The Audition”:
We wish to intentionally cast a performer to portray a female character in their 20s-30s who may understand feeling unseen or overlooked in traditional casting. We specifically encourage actors with disabilities, actors of color, and actors with marginalized body types to audition.
All rehearsals on Staten Island from mid April - June dependent on cast availability.
Not all actors required at every rehearsal. Rehearsal calls will be dependent on scenes.
