In-person and remote options are available for the Soundtrack of Life program.
Young people have opinions and ideas about what is happening in our world. Just as professional artists inspire others through their words and music, Soundtrack of Life gives students a platform to do just that. In this carefully crafted program, students channel their inner artist to express thoughts and feelings on curricular, community, and societal themes. Guided by trained teaching artists, students create their own music, rap, poetry, or spoken word in response to what they perceive now and what they envision for the future. Grades 6 – 12.
Students meet with Sundog teaching artists for approximately two-hour sessions one or two days/week. The program can connect with curricular subjects, historic studies, social issues, or current themes. Sundog artists—who are professional musicians/recording artists—guide students through the process that gives them the chance to be change agents rather than passive observers.
I have seen an extraordinary evolution in the students… from watching them struggle with singing and writing, to watching students who have transmogrified into some very skillful and talented writers and singers. Soundtrack of Life gives students the chance to express themselves in a respectful way.” —Richard Burton, teacher – Curtis High School
