3-D Literacy incorporates multiple intelligences and brain-based research on how the brain learns and retains. We have developed an arts integrated, standards-based school residency that strengthens reading and vocabulary by incorporating theatre methods into literacy curriculum.
As the sole provider of this unique program, Sundog brings an innovative approach through professional, DOE-vetted master teaching artists who work side-by-side with classroom teachers. In addition to building academic skills, we teach behavioral literacy through our partnership with Focus 5, equipping educators with effective classroom management strategies that support a positive, focused learning environment long after the residency ends.
Students don’t just read stories, they step inside them!
Through theatre games and creative literacy strategy, students:
• Discover the fun of reading
• Strengthen vocabulary and critical thinking
• Practice public speaking and collaboration
Using brain-based learning theories, our program also addresses phonology, punctuation, and grammar. Words leap off the page and come to life in powerful, memorable ways. The program supports the following:
• Vocabulary
• Communication skills
• Respect for peers and teamwork
• A healthy classroom community rooted in responsibility and collaboration
• Empowers students to think critically, communicate confidently, and experience literacy as active and relevant
3-D Literacy enhances academic and life skills. It improves literacy outcomes and opens doors for students to see reading through a new lens.
Result: Enhanced literacy and a genuine love of learning.
Teachers say:
— “I have been teaching for 20 years, and I’ve never seen a program this effective. We’re in our 5th year. It’s a seamless integration into teaching, and I am passionate about it.”
— “The use of physicality for holding onto language is beneficial for new language learners.”
— “We incorporate the methods into reading, math, and science. Everyone is impressed with the level of engagement, discussion, and creativity the children have.”
