(NEW YORK CITY, NY) — Sundog Theatre in NYC is seeking one-act plays for “Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry 2020.” This is Sundog Theatre’s 18th annual presentation of new and original one-act plays about their favorite boats, the Staten Island Ferries. There is no submission fee.
This year’s theme is audience participation. Please write your play so that—before the show begins—they can pre-choose an audience member for each play. S/he will briefly come on stage–entering from the audience–and say no more than 2 lines (that will be memorized, so must be short), and exit into the wings.
Four to six plays will be chosen. Writers will receive $100 each and be produced in their series of five February/March 2020 performances in Staten Island, NY.
Please send two copies, bound or stapled, blind submission (removable cover page with title, author, and contacts) and the name of the play on each page to: Sundog Theatre – “Scenes 2020”, PO Box 183, Staten Island, NY 10301. Submissions should include brief synopsis, play history, 70-word bio and full resume of the author.
The deadline is envelopes postmarked from now til December 31, 2019. Electronic submissions not accepted.
Sundog is looking for:
–Original plays not previously produced or published, with a signed note affirming that.
–10-30 minutes in length and set on the Staten Island Ferry.
–Set in contemporary time period. Strong priority will be given to plays with 2 characters, however, 3-character plays will be considered. No special set pieces other than benches or railings found on the Ferry, limited and easily accessible props, and no special sound or lighting.
–Avoid overt and unnecessary sexual/violence situations and language since we cater to a broad audience.
–No musicals, long monologues, poetry, rants, or verse.
–Humor, if appropriate, is appreciated.
